As our Lil’s are learning the alphabet, the idea of there being two of each letter (capital and lowercase) can be confusing. Activities like this one, that put the capital and lowercase letter together, show your Lil’ that there is a correlation between the two symbols. Over time, they will begin to notice that they are consistently putting the same two symbols together and thus they will realize that the two symbols are the same letter.
This activity will work on matching capital and lowercase letters.

Super Mask Letter Matching Template

Step #1
Print and cut out the Super Mask Letter Matching Template.
Step #2
Layout the mask pieces with the capitals on the left and the lowercase letters on the right.
Step #3
Pick one letter at a time and find the matching piece of the mask.
Step #4
To make this easier for your Lil’, leave the capital letters in a pile and only spread out the lowercase letters. This makes it so there are fewer things for your Lil’ to look at and they can focus better.

To make this more challenging, don’t separate the capital and lowercase letters. This makes it so your Lil’ has to search a little harder and really know what they are looking for.

Teacher Tip

At first, you may notice that your Lil’ is using the colors to match vs. the letters. That is okay. They are still taking in the visual information of the capital and lowercase letters and over time, as we do activities like this month after month, they will recognize the pattern of the two letters going together vs. looking for colors or other hints.
